KUALA TERENGGANU: Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said was put in a spot when he had to address queries on dirty public toilets and on Bollywood darling Rani Mukherjee’s impending visit to Terengganu.

He said the flushing down of sanitary pads, along with indiscriminate dumping of rubbish, into toilets had choked the plumbing systems.

“The fault lies with those who disregard cleanliness. Outsiders are disgusted and even the toilets at mosques are not spared. I feel embarrassed,” he told Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli (PAS-Sura).

Earlier, to a supplementary question by Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut (PAS-Wakaf Mempelam) on whether Rani’s visit in June to shoot a romance movie would spread Bollywood culture to the state, Ahmad said the Bollywood entourage would shoot the movie, “not perform at karaoke outlets.”

Dr Syed Azman Syed Ahmad Nawawi (PAS-Batu Buruk) then wanted to know the number of karaoke and other entertainment outlets that had been approved so far. Ahmad said there were 46.

State Industrial, Commerce and Environment Committee chairman Toh Chin Yaw told the assembly that Terengganu would have a rail link once a feasibility study was completed.

He said the railway system was proposed under the 10th Malaysia Plan and would connect Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur.

Datuk Rosol Wahid (BN-Ajil) and Abdul Wahid then traded barbs over the awarding of projects to Umno cronies.

Rosol claimed that during PAS’ 1999 to 2004 rein, the state government also awarded state projects to its cronies.

Abdul Wahid replied: “At least there were no spate of roof collapses then.” – The Star
