Umno will invite Pas’ top leadership to its 2026 general assembly at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, scheduled for Sept 9 to 12.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the decision was reached at the party’s Supreme Council meeting last night.
“The meeting agreed to extend an official invitation to the top Pas leadership to attend the 2026 Umno General Assembly as a gesture of respect and to reciprocate the invitation extended to the Umno leadership to attend the Pas Muktamar,” he told reporters after the meeting.
Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan previously said Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was among the senior leaders invited to the party’s 72nd Muktamar from Sept 2 to 5.
Takiyuddin reportedly said three other senior Umno leaders had also been invited.
Zahid confirmed on Aug 23 that Umno would send representatives to the Muktamar, although the party had yet to decide who would attend.
The Pas Muktamar will be held in Kota Baru, Kelantan, with its main event to be opened by Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang on Sept 4.
Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has also confirmed that he will attend the Pas Youth Muktamar on Sept 3.
His attendance follows an invitation from Pas Youth to the Umno Youth leadership, providing an opportunity for both wings to meet at an official event.
On the Umno assembly, Asyraf said the Supreme Council had approved three programmes to be held on Sept 8, a day before it begins.
They are the 2026 Malay Education Convention, the Malaysian Islamic Scholars Multaqa and the Creative Women’s Pavilion.
