has been consistent in discussing policy matters and ensuring the party remains on the right track, based on teachings in Islam.

“I admit that we still can hear discordant voices which makes it seem like the party does not fully adhere to decisions made by the council,” said Harun in responding to a question raised by a delegate on the party’s annual report which was tabled to the assembly.

“Up till now, at the meetings, we have never faced a major issue which had caused a friction between members.

“As far as I know, these individuals had never raised their view (that syura council decisions are not respected) in the meetings,” said the senior cleric without singling out any names.

“We must always understand that individual opinions can sometimes stray from the consensus and a third-party might unknowingly use use the opportunity to sensationalise a minor difference in opinion,” he said.

Meanwhile, several delegates in their debate of the presidential address also echoed the sentiment voiced by Harun, on the presence of members who often made statements which appears to go against the party and leaders’ stand on a particular issue.

Terengganu delegate Azman Ibrahim, who also did not mention any name, questioned the motive behind some of the criticisms launched against the party’s top leaders.

“Could it be that there are members keen to change the driver in order to reach their ‘destination’ faster?” asked Azman.

He noted that there also are leaders who are too fond of making press statements, without having the necessary background or knowledge on the subject, particularly when dealing with issues of faith and Islam.

Another delegate Sallahudin Nasir from Selangor wanted stern action to be taken against the members who were perceived to be “insincere” in working for the party and the people.

“We don’t need people like these because the word ‘ikhlas’ (sincere) has been repeatedly echoed in the presidential opening speech, signifying its importance,” said Sallahudin

Razman Zakaria from Perak echoes the same sentiment and wanted such members to be punished, even if they used to hold a high position in the party.

“Stern actions must be taken. Don’t wait until the wounds fester!” he warned.

Although no names were mentioned, but the statements were taken to be an obvious reference to former PAS deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa.

Last week, the Bachok MP said Nurul Izzah should retract her statement if she had not meant to say that religious freedom should also be accorded to the Malays.

In October, Nasharuddin also accused DAP of holding a prayer session to turn Malaysia into a Christian state after the party won 12 seats in the Sarawak state election.

However, no actions were taken by the PAS Syura council or central committee against Nasharuddin until now.
