Zaid Ibrahim, 13 other politicians join Pas ahead of Negri polls

Pas has accepted 14 prominent figures, including former ministers, ex-state executive councillors, political leaders, academics and community activists, into the party.

Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan made the announcement at a gathering held ahead of the Negri Sembilan state election.

Among those highlighted were former Negri Sembilan state executive councillor and Ampangan assemblyman Datuk Dr Mohamad Rafie Abdul Malek, former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law) Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, and former private secretary to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Rahimi Osman.

Also joining Pas are former Perak state executive councillor and former Bersatu vice-president Datuk Hamidah Othman, and former Negeri Sembilan Amanah chairman Dr Rosli Yaakup, who is also a former Pas commissioner for the state.

Others include Dr Md Nizam Baharom, former chairman of the Manchester Umno Club, and Lokman Omar, a former Negei Sembilan town planner, who also joined the party.

Pas also received Professor Mohd Nasir Ibrahim, former National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) chairman and former deputy rector of the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage.

Also among the new members are NGO chairman Anas Iman Sudin and Saiful Adli Saiful Ridzuan, former Umno Padang Serai Youth deputy chief.

The list also includes former education officer and Umno Ketereh secretary Datuk Ahmad Tarmizi Musa, former Umno Youth exco member Mostafa Shah, and Datuk Muqorrobin Mokhtaruddin, who previously held positions in Umno Youth and Bersatu and is also known as an Everest climber.

Also joining Pas are Harfitiri Mohd Dahlan, former Umno Youth exco member, and Azlan Johar, former national and Selangor footballer who is now active as a sports commentator.

The entry of the 14 figures is seen as a significant development for Pas ahead of the Negei Sembilan state election, particularly as it involves individuals from diverse political, professional and civil society backgrounds.NST
