Perikatan Nasional (PN) is prepared for any scenario should the 16th General Election (GE16) be called this year, with its election machinery already mobilised at all levels.
PN information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said political developments at the federal and state levels suggested a general election this year was possible.
He said developments involving several state elections indicated that at least four states appeared to be moving towards polls.
“Therefore, the prediction made by Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah is not impossible,” he told reporters here today.
Annuar, who is also Pas deputy election director, said PN and Pas had been making continuous preparations since the last general election, with election machinery remaining active throughout the electoral cycle.
He said the Pas Central Election Department, state election departments, parliamentary election departments and constituency-level election departments had all been established and were functioning.
He added that training programmes and simulations for election workers had been completed to ensure readiness among members and volunteers.
“We are ready to face an election whenever it is called,” he said.
On Wednesday, Amar said he expected GE16 to be held this year, between late October and November.NST
