1221

We as residents of Miri happy with the decision of the Cabinet of Sarawak which has approved the gazette of the former site of Piasau Camp, Miri as nature reserves on 3 April 2014 as announced by the Minister of Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh in the local press release recently.

We also would like to wish congratulations to all parties that together struggling to maintain Piasau Camp that has its own history from demolished especially those related to Expatriates living quarters and Shell employees in oil and gas operations in the past. Similarly this area is the place of hornbills lived in peaceful and safe.

We hope the area will continue to be well maintained and be one of the tourist attraction from abroad and domestic to visit Sarawak especially the Miri city. We also urge the government to maintain the structure or historical places in Miri so that these treasures be a useful asset to be historical materials in the state.

Piasau Camp Wooden HouseAlthough Miri is booming, historic sites and wildlife area of protected animals should also be given the care and attention so that it will not become extinct posterity.

Similarly, residential areas, should be aware that any mill or plants that pollute the environment must be removed to other places away from residential areas.

We want to take the attention of the government, especially the Miri City Council (MCC) to act decisively and quickly so that the concrete mixer factory that pollute and disrupt the lives of residents in the Lutong Baru housing immediately moved.

To date, the plant continues to operate and the housing residents complain they are no longer tolerate with the situation that pollute their neighborhoods. The question is why until now the MCC does not act to stop the plant from continuing to operate in residential areas?

Hope the MCC parties take note of this case seriously and immediately ordered the factory moved to the area that has been approved by the Department of Lands and Surveys to Kuala Baram area. This has long been reported by the locals but no action taken by the authorities.

Cooperation of all parties must be increased in order to protect the environment so that it is safe from any contaminants. Hopefully Miri city will continue to advance and safer for residence with clean surroundings, filled with refreshing green plants and continue to be protected from environmental contamination.

Yours faithfully,
