Malaysia needs new leadership capable of offering real solutions for the people, rather than merely engaging in political rhetoric.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the country is currently in a challenging phase that requires more efficient and principled leadership—one that can restore public confidence in the political system and national administration.

“Malaysia needs a new leadership model, not just rhetoric but real solutions.

“This country must be governed more efficiently, with integrity, and in accordance with the Constitution, while ensuring justice for all citizens,” he said when speaking at the 58th anniversary convention of the Gerakan here today.

Ahmad Samsuri, who is also the opposition leader, said Malaysia cannot continue to be built on a politics of suspicion and a culture of mutual distrust, as this would only weaken the country.

He also said Malaysia is facing increasingly complex global changes, including major power competition, geopolitics, and the digital economy, all of which require political stability to attract foreign investment.

“We cannot continue fighting on the basis of suspicion because foreign investors choose stable countries.

“A country becomes strong when there is public

confidence. Malaysians are also increasingly aware that politics can no longer revolve around slogans and empty promises,” he said.

The PAS vice-president added that the current situation requires Gerakan to play a bigger role, including becoming a dominant party in the country’s political landscape.

He said the party’s 58-year history is not merely a symbol of its past, but reflects the maturity of its struggle and its continued relevance as a moderate political force.

He added that Gerakan also plays an important role as a bridge of understanding between Perikatan Nasional and the Chinese community.

“Fifty-eight years is still a time of vitality and stability, reflecting grounded maturity.

“Gerakan has also gone through its darkest episodes in Penang but, as boxing legend Muhammad Ali once said, ‘in the ring, there is no problem with falling, but do not stay down’.

“We can fall, stumble, and trip, but what matters most is that we do not stay down, but continue to rise and move forward together.” he added – NST
