Residents of Kampung Riam Jaya at Miri airport road facing the flash floods and road damaged due to the housing projects in their area. According to one of the residents who do not want to be named told us at the back of his house, the land began to erode as a result of housing projects under construction.
Residents involved are also told us that the housing project was disturbing their daily lives where the village roads are damaged and dusty.
Similarly, when is a prolonged heavy rainfall season, the lower areas will be flooded by the stagnant rain water due to drainage system that is narrow and clogged. Damaged and dusty road when a lorry carrying sand and building materials through their residential areas.
They also complained that their telephone pole wires twisted resulting in disruption of communication systems and the use of the internet. This is very dangerous if the parties concerned do not take immediate action to rectify the twisted wires.
Housing project contractor should be able to prioritize in terms of safety and cleanliness as well as building a good drainage system so as to avoid the flash flood occurred in the neighborhood that causing the villagers daily life disrupted. They appealed to the relevant authorities to control the situation from continues.
We urge the relevant authorities to pay attention to the problems faced by the residents involved, by build a special lane for lorry transport construction material and immediately repair damaged roads and construct a drain to avoid flash floods occurring in their neighborhoods.
Similarly, the flying dust can affect the health of the villagers. Lorry that passing through carries a load in the village need to be careful when driving to avoid any accidents and their load should be covered so as not to pollute the housing area.
Hopefully, damaged roads and flash floods can be resolved in the Riam Jaya village immediately. The villagers have expressed this problem to the elected representatives in their area but until now there is no effort done to overcome them.
We hope that this problem can be resolved by the parties concerned immediately regardless of race, religion and political affiliation. Cooperation with relevant parties is highly appreciated.
