Terengganu PAS commissioner Abdul Wahid Endut said such parties, which required youngsters to dress up as ghoulish characters, amounted to devil worship.
“It’s better if the parties are not held at all. Nothing good will come out of such a thing,” he said.
Abdul Wahid urged the authorities to closely monitor such parties as they might lead to immoral acts such as the consumption of alcohol and indecent behaviour.
On Monday, Johor PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamed urged parents to monitor their children taking part in Halloween parties.
He had said PAS was not against foreign culture but insisted that guidelines were necessary when it involved other cultures, especially from the West or the East like Japan and South Korea, being brought into the country.
Other PAS leaders had said such parties could not simply be described as entertainment.
Abdul Wahid called for a halt to the young getting engrossed with Halloween parties.
He said Halloween parties were not part of the country’s culture.
“Muslims should not support, let alone take part in a party, which requires participants to dress up as ghosts and monsters.
“If one is not careful, it might lead to the destruction of their akidah,” he told The Star.
Sabah MCA vice-chairman Chew Kok Woh said PAS’ protest against Halloween parties was mind-boggling.
He said he was still trying to understand why PAS protested against the Avril Lavigne concert in 2008, claiming she was “sexy” which many fans would not agree.
“PAS has also objected to the construction of a cinema in Bangi, Selangor,” he said. – The Star Online
