Sungai Limau; Unsuitable Polling Day Cause Majority Reduced

Kedah Pas commissioner Datuk Mahfuz Omar blamed the reduced majority in the votes garnered by their candidate on the unsuitable polling date.

While he was satisfied with the 1,084 majority won by their candidate Mohd Azam Abdul Samad against BN’s Dr Sohaimi Lazim in the by-election today, he said polling should have been held on a holiday instead of a work day.

Mohd Azam garnered 12,069 votes while Sohaimi managed to pull 10,985 votes.

“Almost 1,000 voters from the party’s 3,660 voters who resided outside the constituency, were unable to come back to vote due to work demand,” he said.

Meanwhile, the newly-elected Sungai Limau state assemblyman Mohd Azam pledged to uphold the rights and welfare of the constituents.

Mohd Azam, 37, who helped the party retained the seat which it had held for the past five terms through the late Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak, said he owed his victory to the hard work of Pakatan Rakyat machinery and support from the voters.

“I would like to thank all for the efforts and support given to me for the past two weeks,” he said.
