Its director, Datuk Nor Rashid Ibrahim (picture) said the action was one of the approaches taken by the department to curb drug trafficking in the country.
He said the police also seized drugs valued at RM216.52 million from January to November compared to RM254.56 million in the corresponding period last year.
It is a daunting task to stem the drug pipeline as the country is being used as a transit point by drug traffickers from abroad, he told reporters here.
Meanwhile, Nor Rashid said as Terengganu, Pahang and Kelantan were among top drug trafficking states, the police in the three states should forge closer cooperation to thwart the activities.
He said that based on statistics, drug trafficking cases had increased significantly with most cases being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which meted out the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.– BERNAMA
