Last year, 90 cases of juvenile crime involving 122 students were reported, a drop of 36 cases as compared to 126 cases, the previous year, involving 236 students.

State police chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said, most of the students caught were aged between 13 and 18, and were linked to various offences, including rape, murder, robbery, theft and burglary.

He attributed the downward trend of the juvenile crime rate to joint cooperation involving teachers, parents and students.

“With the cooperation of students, parent-teacher associations, teachers and the local community, criminal cases involving students continues to drop,” he said.
