KUALA TERENGGANU -The people in Terengganu were Tuesday reminded to pay extra attention to chicken sold in the markets, especially during festive seasons, as the status on cleanliness, safety and halal can be doubtful.
State Veterinary Services Department director, Dr Abdul Razak Mohd Zailan said the department suspected chicken sold in open markets, such as supermarkets, farmers’ markets and night markets, could not have gone through the proper slaughtering process by an accredited handler and in hygienic conditions.

Also present was Terengganu Breeders Association chairman, Hamid Salleh.Abdul Razak said the public must ensure that chicken sold at open places should be wrapped with plastic together with the halal logo from the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) and stamped with the Veterinary Health Mark if they were not confident or skeptical.
He suggested that the association request the state government to build a centralised chicken processing centre in Terengganu to ensure chicken sold in the markets were guaranteed halal, clean and safe for consumption.–BERNAMA
