The hallmark of the late Datuk Mohd Fauzi Shaari as a friendly but firm and bold police officer should be emulated by up-and-coming policemen, said Selangor police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan.

He said he had known the former Bukit Aman CID director since 20 years ago, while serving at the Selangor police contingent. He said Mohd Fauzi was objective in carrying out his duties, which was the key to his success in the force.

“In my opinion, young policemen and officers should look up to Mohd Fauzi as a successful member of the force,” he told reporters after the burial ceremony at the Muslim cemetery in Section 21 here today.

Also present were Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinin, Police Management Department director Datuk Mortadza Nazarene, Selangor Umno liaison chairman Datuk Seri Noh Omar and Selangor senior police officers. Mohd Fauzi’s body was laid to rest at 10.15am.

The 63-year-old died at the Selayang Hospital yesterday at 8.17pm, due to liver and kidney infection, four days after admission.

Mohd Fauzi, from Larut Matang, Perak joined the police force on April 30, 1975. He was appointed Selangor police chief in 2003, and two years later, took over as Bukit Aman CID director. He retired in 2006.

He is survived by widow, Datin Fuziah Ngah Nordin, 60, and four sons, Mohd Faizal, 35; Mohd Fazril, 32; Mohd Fazrul, 32, and Mohd Faznur, 28, as well as two grandchildren.

Mohd Faizal said his father had always been healthy and did not show signs of any illness.

“However, he began having fever on Wednesday, and was later diagnosed as having contracted an infection.” — BERNAMA SAH NJ CHW GR
