Terengganu’s investment landscape continues to gain momentum, with committed investments reported at RM4.3 billion as of September 2025. This robust performance, led primarily by the renewable energy industry, underscores growing investor confidence in Terengganu’s competitiveness within the East Coast Economic Region (ECER).

The RM4.3 billion in committed investments is expected to create around 1981 job opportunities, reinforcing the state’s position as an attractive destination for investors across multiple sectors. The manufacturing sector accounted for 74% of total commitments, followed by tourism (12%), agriculture (8%), and services (6%), highlighting Terengganu’s diversified and balanced investment ecosystem.

A key driver in committed investment is the RM2.9 billion solar-hybrid project at Tasik Kenyir, a joint venture between TNB Genco Sdn. Bhd. and Terengganu Inc.. The pilot phase was launched on 12 July 2025, and plans are underway to scale up to full commercial rollout, with key contractual agreements under discussion.

Meanwhile, realised investments was reported at RM1.6 billion, reflecting steady expansion across Terengganu’s industrial and tourism sectors. Several notable projects include the development of Kertih Terengganu Industrial Park by Retro Court Sdn. Bhd., which is set to serve as a strategic hub for energy-intensive and downstream industries. In the tourism sector, GEM Island Resort Sdn. Bhd. is developing a new three-star hotel, further strengthening Terengganu’s appeal as a tourism destination.

These achievements were announced following the Implementation and Coordination Committee (ICC) ECER Terengganu meeting chaired by Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Menteri Besar of Terengganu, in Putrajaya today.

“This remarkable performance reflects the confidence investors have in Terengganu and our commitment to fostering a resilient, forward-looking economy. From renewable energy and manufacturing to tourism and agriculture, we are building a diverse economic base that ensures sustainable growth and lasting benefits for the people of Terengganu,” said Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

To support the State’s expanding industrial base, East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) continues to enhance enabling infrastructures. The SME Complex Phase 1B at Kerteh Biopolymer Park (KBP) was completed in July 2025, with the Certificate of Completion of Construction (CCC) expected within the fourth quarter of 2025. This modern facility offers semidetached and detached factory units for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in green technology and biopolymer-related industries, reinforcing Terengganu’s industrial value chain and encouraging sustainable business growth.

Beyond industrial progress, ECERDC remains committed to uplifting local communities through inclusive and sustainable initiatives. In Setiu, the IPR-INTAN Bukit Bidong Phase 1 project is progressing steadily across 66 hectares, featuring high-tech fertigation farming of chilli, okra, and eggplant. Utilising controlled-environment greenhouses and Internet of Things (IoT) enabled smart agriculture, the project is designed to boost productivity and ensure better livelihoods. A total of 140 participants are expected to benefit, with the first commercial harvest expected by the end of 2025 for supply to the wholesale markets and retail outlets.

“Terengganu’s progress demonstrates how strategic investments, infrastructure readiness, and community empowerment go hand in hand. ECERDC will continue to work closely with the State Government to deliver projects that attract investors, strengthen local industries, and uplift livelihoods across the region.”

“To further enhance the state’s appeal to investors and visitors, ECERDC continues to strengthen key infrastructure and tourism assets through initiatives such as the upgrading of the Sultan Mahmud Airport–KTCC Executive Drive (KTAR2), which will provide a seamless gateway between the airport and the city centre, and the Promenade KTCC Phase 1, which is paving the way for new commercial and leisure developments at Kuala Terengganu’s Muara Utara and Muara Selatan waterfronts,” said Dato’ Baidzawi Che Mat, Chief Executive Officer of ECERDC.

Also present at the ICC Terengganu meeting were Committee Members including Dato’ Nara Setia Dato’ Zulkifli Ali, Terengganu State Secretary, Dato’ Haji Tun Ahmad Faisal Tun Abdul Razak, Terengganu Land and Mines Director; Dato’ Haji Rosli Latif, Deputy State Secretary (Development); Dato’ Haji Abdul Kahar Abdul Latif, Director of Terengganu State Development; Dr. Ravikumar Suppiah, Deputy Director (Corridor Development), Regional Development Division, Ministry of Economy; and Dato’ Indera Ikmalrudin Ishak, Deputy Secretary General; Finance and Development Division, Prime Minister’s Department.
