Sticks To Muktamar Resolution, Wants To Be Led By PN

PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has denied claims that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been agreed to remain as the Chairman of the Perikatan Nasional (PN).

“We stress that no decision has been made so far, there is none. There is no decision yet,” he said when met by reporters after delivering a Dhuha lecture at the Rusila Mosque, here today.

Abdul Hadi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Marang, stressed that PAS’s stance remains consistent based on the party’s muktamar resolution which determined that the candidate for the PN Chairman would be from the party he leads.

However, he explained that the appointment to replace Muhyiddin as the PN Chairman has not been finalized.

He said that PAS has also not received any official invitation from PN to discuss the appointment of a new chairman.

“So far we have not received an invitation yet, so let’s wait, but no decision has been made,” he said, explaining that the delay in appointing Muhyiddin’s successor is not due to differences in party stances, but rather a matter of management and administration.

“God willing, a decision can be made at any time,” he added, expecting it to be finalized within the next one or two weeks because PN needs to prepare for the 16th General Election (GE16).

Muhyiddin, who is also a former Prime Minister, previously announced his resignation as PN Chairman after five years leading the coalition, effective January 1.

Following this, various speculations arose about a successor candidate, with names mentioned including Abdul Hadi himself and Terengganu Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Moktar.

Commenting on the proposal for political cooperation or grand collaboration, Abdul Hadi said that PAS would not accept the proposal because it contained various things that were not agreed upon.

Regarding MIC’s participation in PN, he explained that it was not a new issue because the Barisan Nasional (BN) component party had already been accepted into PN.
