PAS syura council has referred matters concerning the party’s cooperation with Bersatu to its central working committee following discussions on recent political developments and the internal crisis within its Perikatan Nasional (PN) ally.
Syura council secretary Datuk Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh said the council met today to review the position, strength and direction of PN.
Nik Muhammad Zawawi, who is also the Pasir Puteh member of parliament, said the council had taken serious note of the internal conflict in Bersatu.
He said the council decided to leave the matter to Pas’s central working committee for appropriate action in line with the party’s policies, principles and interests.
“The meeting received a detailed report from the Pas’s central leadership and took into account findings, views and current assessments by researchers and political analysts on recent political developments.
The syura council has taken serious note of the crisis and internal conflict within Bersatu, which is seen as affecting the strength, stability and confidence in PN’s direction in advancing the agenda of ummah unity.
“Accordingly, the council has decided to leave the matter to Pas’s central working committee to take the appropriate course of action in accordance with the party’s policies, principles and interests,” he told reporters after co-chairing the council meeting at Pas headquarters today.
Nik Muhammad Zawawi said the council reaffirmed that Pas would remain steadfast in upholding Islamic principles, supporting the agenda of ummah unity and prioritising the interests of the people and the nation.
“Pas believes every political decision must be guided by syariah considerations, the interests of the ummah, national stability and the need to strengthen public confidence in principled, mature and responsible political leadership,” he said.
The remarks come amid growing scrutiny of relations between Pas and Bersatu following recent developments within the latter party and ahead of the upcoming Johor state election. – NST
