Statement of Asian Federation of Muslim Youth (AFMY)
Condemnation of US Embassy Opening in Baitul Maqdis
The Asian Federation of Muslim Youth (AFMY) strongly condemns the establishment of the US embassy in Baitul Maqdis, thus acknowledging the territory as the capital city of the illegal state of Israel. The ceremony was held just a few days prior to the holy month of Ramadhan 1439H.
The establishment of the embassy has triggered the outrage of the Muslim in Gaza which has been denied the right of freedom in their own land. Israel are responsible for the restrictions over land, sea and air in Gaza for more than a century, causing the massive shortage of their necessities and worsening the suffering of its people.
So far, up to 62 Palestinians have died and almost 3,000 were injured. It is even more devastating as one of the victims died was the 8-month-old baby named Laila Anwar al-Ghandour, who was killed during the 70th Anniversary of the An-Nakbah event.
We call for the international community to denounce the 33 countries sending their delegates to the opening ceremony of the embassy, despite the United Nations resolution on 21st December 2017, which rejected the declaration of Baitul Maqdis as the capital of Israel.
The Muslim countries should follow the resolute reaction as shown by Turkey who called home their delegates in Washington and Tel Aviv as well as ordered Israeli diplomats in Turkey to return to their own country.
Struggle of the Palestinians to defend the land is the one that will last until the day of Qiamah. This holy month of Ramadan should be a platform for Muslims to rejuvenate the spirit of jihad and aiding the Palestinians through du’a in prayers, continuous financial support, and the dissemination of information through various forms of media.
