Hudud: MCA challenges Guan Eng to debate

MCA vice-president Gan Ping Sieu has issued a challenge to DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng to a public debate on the Islamic hudud law issue, which if Guan Eng accepts will set the stage for a thrilling clash that is bound to be telecast live on national TV.

The MCA insists that hudud law has no place in the modern world, and not only that, any attempt to implement it was against the Federal Consitution and would even hinder religious freedom and individual human rights.

The MCA has made no bones that it finds PAS leaders including Spiritual Adviser Nik Aziz to be as bad as devils in wanting to impose hudud in Malaysia.

The MCA has also accused DAP of closing an eye on these issues for the sake of collaborating in the Pakatan Rakyat coalition so as to win federal power.

DAP fire finds mark

But DAP leaders too have slammed back and found their mark. Most notably in the state of Terengganu, where hudud was gazzeted as law under the BN-led state government.

Why didn’t MCA stand up for the Chinese in the state and all Malaysians who still harbor reservations about hudud, which is actually part of the Islamic penal code for 6 specific type of crimes?

Hudud is controversial because it prescribes outrageous punishment such as whipping, amputation of limbs and stoning to death for crimes such as adultery and stealing.

Yet, MCA appears to be determined to seize its final chance to redeem its battered image. In hudud, the MCA believes it still has a chance to win back the Chinese electorate by standing on the moral high ground.

According to Bernama, the MCA has passed a resolution objecting to hudud law and castigating PAS.

“There are no issues of hindering religious freedom, or prohibiting the rights to practice other religion,” shit back PAS information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man in a statement this morning.

“This ignorance shows to the people how MCA, an important component in BN after UMNO, fails to be sensitive towards Muslims, by passing on a resolution that is insulting towards Islam.”.malaysia-chronicle
