Football coach charged

KUALA TERENGGANU: A coach of Terengganu President’s Cup football team was slapped with six counts of match-fixing at a Sessions Court here.

Sufian Ngah, 41, was charged with giving bribes to six T-Team players with the intention of fixing the match against the Pahang President’s Cup team last year.

He had allegedly given bribes amounting to RM500 each to four players and RM1,500 to two players to fix the match between T-Team and Pahang.

The incident occurred at a house in Kampung Hulu Takir, Jalan Seberang Takir here at about 7pm in March last year.

The four players said to be given RM500 were Mohd Nadzmeer Mohammad, Mohd Azuan Hus­sein, Mohd Hanifzam Muda and Mohd Hafiz Mohd Noor. The two who allegedly received RM1,500 each were Mohd Azwan Mat Ali and Muhammad Shariquddin Ibrahim.

The offence under Section 16(b) (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Cor­ruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, carries not less than a 20-year imprisonment and five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Sessions Court judge Zainal Abidin Kamarudin set June 30 for mention and fixed bail at RM4,000 with a surety.
