Selangor PAS said it is ready to take over the administration of the party’s divisions and branches in the state after over 400 office bearers quit their positions earlier today.
State commissioner Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad said the chapter has discussed the matter with party secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, who has agreed that the takeover will be in line with Article 26(9)(j) of the party’s constitution.
“Our side has also undertaken discussions at the grassroots level and will not have any problem to identify leaders or local movers to govern and put into motion any divisions or branches involved,” Iskandar said in a statement.
He also highlighted that there are 1,000 PAS divisions and almost 100,000 PAS members in total in the state.
Earlier today, 413 PAS office bearers across Selangor announced today their resignation from party positions in a bid to ease their leap into a new Islamist party expected end of the month.
The new political party is spearheaded by PAS splinter group Harapan Baru.
Those who resigned today comprised 183 office bearers from the Kota Raja parliamentary constituency, 227 members with positions from the Kapar federal constituency and three committee members from Klang, all of whom remain ordinary PAS members but no longer hold any positions in their respective constituencies.
PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man acknowledged the resignations, but said in a statement: “PAS central would like to reiterate that there will be no branches that will be dissolved even though leaders and some of its members have left”. – themalaymailonline
