

As a national leader, he should promote a deeper understanding between different faiths instead of making insensitive remarks that may jeapordise diplomatic relations, especially with Muslim majority countries like Indonesia and those in the Middle East.
Malaysian leaders should stand united with leaders of the world to condemn Chua’s contemptuous statement against Islam and Muslims.
Belittling others, abandoning decorum and using religion in a shameful attempt to score cheap political points is not the way forward for Malaysia. This behaviour fails to reflect maturity, leadership, or adherence to local or international standards.

There is a need in Malaysia for a culture of respectful, open dialogue in pursuit of mutual understanding, especially among communities of different backgrounds. Only through such respect and understanding can we together build a mature society capable of making democratic decisions regarding the shape of our nation’s future.
