The Perikatan Nasional (PN) Supreme Council is expected to hold a meeting this month to decide the coalition’s leadership, including its successor, said PN deputy secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
He said invitations had been extended to the four party presidents within the coalition, with one president responding and requesting that the meeting not be scheduled earlier than Feb 20.
“We are still finalising the date. I have contacted all the presidents of the PN component parties — four presidents — to determine a date that all of them can attend. There are no exceptions.
“So far, I have not received a date that has been agreed upon by everyone. We hope it will not be beyond this month, or preferably within this week.
“One president has said that it should be no earlier than Feb 19, while the others have yet to respond. So, the meeting will likely take place from Feb 20 onwards,” he said at a press conference at the Parliament building today.
Takiyuddin added that he had personally sent out the invitations two days ago, which had since been acknowledged.
Last month, it was reported that the PN Supreme Council had cancelled a scheduled meeting that was supposed to discuss Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation as coalition chairman and the appointment of his successor.
Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, when contacted by Malaysiakini, confirmed the matter.
“It has been changed to a pre-council PN meeting at Muhyiddin’s residence,” he said, without divulging further details.
It was also reported that a rift was emerging within PN over the impending appointment of its new leader, with some component parties reportedly rejecting a chairman from Pas.
However, Tuan Ibrahim dismissed claims of internal turmoil within PN, stressing that there was no problem within the coalition at present. – NST
