PAS has denied claims made by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that the former’s reluctance to join Pakatan Harapan meant that they supported Barisan Nasional.

“It’s not true, not true,” said party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang while denying Dr Mahathir’s claims.

The claim was made by the former premier at the Pakatan Harapan convention on Saturday.

Asked whether the claim by Dr Mahathir was fair, Abdul Hadi said “that is up to him”.

He however added that PAS supported certain ideologies of Umno.

“Yes there are some things we support. We can’t support them as a whole,” he said.

The Marang MP however did not respond when asked if PAS would join Pakatan Harapan.

nik abduhMeanwhile PAS youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Aziz said, instead of returning to politics, Dr Mahathir Mohamad should “turn to God”.

He told reporters in Parliament on Monday that Dr Mahathir should focus on praying as that would be better for him.

“I’ve said it before, he is better off on the praying mat. It is better for him to pray instead of being involved in politics,” he said.

He added that Dr Mahathir was now fighting against things that he did when he was prime minister.

“He is the one who suppressed the rights of the Kelantan royalty and now he is fighting for these rights. He put Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in prison and now he wants to free him.

Nik Abduh also said that PAS still had doubts about joining forces with Parti Pribumi Bersatu as it was unsure of the latter’s seriousness in working with PAS.

“I don’t know if this party is serious or not. At one time, they are serious about joining with PAS, then at another time it is like they are not serious. So PAS is always wary about everything,” he said.

He said that PAS would never join Pakatan Harapan and added that the Islamist party was confident of winning on its own.

“We never said that (PAS will lose). Dr Mahathir said that. We never said we would lose.

“We are confident we will get the votes. We are always confident and we are open to working together,” he said.
