He said Umno leaders were observing the behaviour of elected representatives to ensure they toed the party line.
“I want to ring a bell here to those aspiring to be assemblymen and elected representatives. If you cause trouble, including uttering racist remarks, your chances of being fielded in the next general election are gone,” he said after chairing the state party liaison committee meeting here yesterday.
Hishammuddin, who is also the Terengganu Umno liaison chief, said party leaders would judge the candidates based on their past records.
“The important thing is that Umno members are expected to be loyal to the party and refrain from causing trouble within Umno itself,” said Hishammuddin.
He said only those candidates with good past records and were well accepted by the grassroots would be fielded.
On another matter, Hishammuddin confirmed that no action would be taken against four Setiu Umno leaders who were absent from their divisional meeting last month.
The four (pic right) – Ramlan Ali (Jabi), Ashaari Idris (Langkap), Khazan Che Mat (Batu Rakit) and Abd Halim Jusoh (Permaisuri) – missed the meeting even though it was opened by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said this was because there were other Umno members who were also absent from their division meetings.
“If we proceed with action against the four, then the same punishment should also be implemented against others,” he said, adding that the best action would be to omit the names of these party detractors and troublemakers from the list of candidates at the next poll.-TheStarOnline
