Terengganu MB Raps Disappearing Elected Reps

KEMAMAN, – Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said Saturday hit out at the Umno elected representatives who rarely go to the ground to meet their constituents and show up only when an election is near.

He said such an attitude would be a loss for the elected representatives and the adverse impact would be felt by Umno and the Barisan Nasional in an election.

“The future of every elected representative depends on the party members and voters. Do not be elected representatives who only show their face for 10 days during an election campaign and then disappear for five years,” he said when addressing the Kemaman Umno Division delegates meeting opened by Umno vice-president and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“If I can stand for six hours to hand over e-Books to school children and spend up to midnight to be with the people, I do not see why other elected representatives cannot do so, even spend time at mosques to pray with the people,” he said.

Ahmad urged elected representatives to strive harder to achieve the target of getting 60 per cent of Umno members in their respective constituencies to register as voters.

This was to ensure that the elected representatives as well as the party won big in the next general election, he said.
