KUALA TERENGGANU – Terengganu Education Department director Shafruddin Ali Hussin said 306 students out of 20,517 candidates who sat for SPM in the state scored straight As.
The number is a decline from the 348 straight A-scorers in 2015.
“Sekolah Menengah Sains Sultan Mahmud, with a School Average Grade (GPS) of 1.42 and SM Sains Kuala Terengganu, with a GPS of 2.14, are recorded as the top-performing schools in 2016,” he told reporters at a press conference at the Kuala Terengganu Education Department head office today.
Shafruddin said the state’s two top-scoring students are Husna Mardhiyyah Mohd Fauzi, from SM Imtiaz Kemaman, who scored 11A+s and Lam Sin Gee, from SMK Sultan Sulaiman, who scored 9A+s.
Meanwhile, Nur Shuhada Alias from SMK Bukit Besar, who scored 5As and 1B, is the best-performing special needs candidate.
Shafruddin said candidates’ overall performance this year improved with 10,345 students passing all subjects, compared to10,264 in 2015.
“A total of 12, or 35.29 per cent of special needs students, out of 34, also qualified for SPM certificates,” he added.
