KUALA TERENGGANU, March 8 (Bernama) — The police nabbed two Rela members and a Thai woman and seized 612 grams of heroin worth about RM200,000 from a car at Jalan Sultan Mahmud, Kuala Ibai here last Thursday.
A one-year-old boy was also brought into custody during the operation at 12.30pm, said Terengganu narcotics investigation department chief Supt Roslan Abd Wahid.
He said the police also confiscated RM9,800 and Thailand Bath (THB) 6,000 (THB1 = RM0.10) in the drug bust, the biggest so far this year.
“The two men aged 36 and 40 are cousins while the 28-year-old woman is the wife of the 36-year-old man.
“The heroin is meant for distribution in the state. The couple’s son was handed to the their relatives yesterday,” Roslan told reporters here today.
He said both men were from Pasir Mas, Kelantan while the woman was from Narathiwat, Thailand.
Bernama reported, seven police officers and 16 policemen stopped the car opposite a clinic after receiving a tip-off.
Roslan said the police found the heroin in 136 bottles encased in 14 transparent plastic packets and wrapped with newspapers kept in a bag placed in the left back-seat legroom.
The trio, who are remanded for one week, are being investigated under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 which carries a mandatory death penalty.
