KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 (Bernama) — PAS will hold elections for all party posts at its 57th annual assembly in Gombak here from June 3 to 5, secretary general Datuk Mustafa Ali said on Friday.
He told reporters that nominations had begun and would close on May 15.
Between May 15 and 26, nominated candidates would be notified by letter and asked to state whether or not they agreed to contest, he said.
“Those who fail to respond will be regarded as not interested in vying for any post,” Mustafa said.
Mustafa said that he would not be contesting any post, but did not say why.
About 1,100 delegates from 179 divisions are expected to attend the assembly at the Zulkifli Muhammad Islamic University College.
Asked to comment on the stand of PAS on the sex video reported to feature someone resembling opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, he said his party wanted the matter to be investigated first.
“PAS has decided that the matter should be investigated first because the process undertaken by the government is based on the law and the constitution,” Mustafa said.
He said that PAS would state its stand in the opposition pact after the investigation on the video was completed.
