KUALA LUMPUR: PAS will not hold an extraordinary general meeting but instead will organise a seminar for its leadership and delegates to strengthen the party.

Its central working committee decided unanimously not to hold an EGM as suggested by Mursyidul Am Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat in a move to oust several ‘problematic’ leaders.

The seminar, which will be held on Nov 7 in Taman Melewar, Gombak, will discuss current issues to strengthen PAS in the face of current challenges. More than a thousand central delegates are expected to attend the one day seminar.

PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said the central committee was unanimous in its decision not to hold an EGM after taking into account Nik Aziz’s view.

“He said we should hold a meeting to gather the grassroots,” said Hadi, adding that Nik Aziz left the meeting early because he was not well.

Vice president Sallahuddin Ayub has been tasked with organising the seminar, which will also feature academics and NGOs for their views and opinion.

The meeting at the party’s headquarters lasted more than four hours, ending well after midnight.

Among others, it also decided to ask the disciplinary committee to look into allegations against PAS Selangor.

“The disciplinary committee will investigate the allegations made against PAS Selangor,” said Hadi, adding that the matter had also been discussed at the Pakatan Rakyat level.

He said no particular individual was being targeted for investigation, instead PAS Selangor as a whole would come under scrutiny..

The special central working committee meeting also agreed to strengthen the party’s cooperation with its Pakatan Rakyat partners, with PAS taking a more active role in the coalition.

Hadi also reiterated that the unity government issue was now closed and no longer a subject of discussion.-The Edge
