According to Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, the situation was probably attributed by separate applications from divorced parents.
“This probably happened when the mother and father filed separate applications, and maybe, the grandmother also filed another application because the student was staying with her,” he said after chairing the state executive council weekly meeting here Wednesday.
He said the distribution of school uniforms costing about RM12 million — initially scheduled for next week — had to be postponed by another fortnight due to the problem.
Currently, he said the state government had received 106,000 applications for school uniform aid, but only 12,000 applicants were qualified to receive them.
On another development, Ahmad said he would convene a meeting later today, with Terengganu students who were recently evacuated from Egypt.
He said the meeting was aimed at collecting the latest information on the students, especially private students, to enable them to be contacted, should problems arise.
Ahmad said 13 private students from Terengganu, who were pursuing studies in Egypt, had decided not to return to Malaysia during the recent operation, dubbed ‘Ops Piramid’, to evacuate Malaysian students from the conflict-stricken country.
