A mobile marriage counselling team established by Terengganu PAS in 2006 to encourage romance among single party members plans to list its services on cyberspace.

The team, under the state PAS Social and Welfare Bureau, has been trying to register singles as members by setting-up kiosks during political ceramah in the state, but received a lukewarm response with only two people signing up.

Hence, bureau chief Abu Bakar Abdullah mooted the idea of creating a matchmaking website for PAS members to source for the right partners.

“Most people are shy, we hope to to get a better response in cyberspace,” he told The Star.

Abu Bakar said he was confident that professionals like doctors, engineers and architects would register online.

The bureau plans to screen the backgrounds of those on the matchmaking website, so only those genuinely interested in getting married are listed.

“We want to prevent cyber-Casanovas from taking advantage of our members,’’ he said.

Abu Bakar added the bureau will not limit the membership to Terengganu PAS but open it to all party members including those residing overseas.

Asked whether the bureau accepts non-party members, Abu Bakar replied: “It all about the power of attraction, we can’t stop our members from marrying if they have chemistry with an individual who is not from PAS.”

Abu Bakar said the bureau would engage software engineers to design the website which is expected to go online next year.

“We will also get Muslim bridal agencies to put up their services on the website,” he added.-TheStarOnline
