In view of the recent, troubling developments:
i. Continuing constraints and discrimination by collusion of forces between local authorities and religious extremists against Muslims in Myanmar during the month of Ramadhan, creating a difficult environment for Muslims to perform their fasting rituals.
ii. Mosques and places of worship being continuously targeted with the aim of creating chaos and instilling fear amongst Muslims. It is a clear violation of human rights as people are entitled to exercise their beliefs peacefully.
iii. Systematic efforts by irresponsible people of power, local authority apparatus and extremist religious groups to expel Muslims from their homes, which have sparked a massive immigrant phenomenon that are now becoming a serious regional challenge.
Hence, The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) strongly urge that:
1. Authorized representatives of government, civil society and NGOs be allowed to operate in Myanmar with protection and without fear of intimidation, to channel and provide aid to the Muslim community especially to the Rohingya community.
2. The national government in Myanmar to take immediate steps to stop the aggressive actions of irresponsible local authorities and religious extremists through strong policing and legal actions.
3. For ASEAN and the United Nations to use the full means of diplomacy, in condemning the serious developments that continue to occur in Myanmar and to discuss urgent measures using incentives and punitive steps that could be implemented to encourage the Myanmar government to take corrective solutions to the issue of Muslims welfare in Myanmar.
