KUALA TERENGGANU: The state Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will be informed about the outcome of investigations into how a concrete structure at a university building here collapsed on Monday.

The police will also furnish a report concerning the incident at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu’s Oceanographic and Tropical Aquaculture building to other related agencies.

State police chief Senior Asst Comm 1 Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said a thorough probe would be carried out at the site where the university’s new building was being constructed.

“Our probe covers various angles including whether there are any criminal elements. The main contractor of the project will be summoned to aid investigations. The probe is expected to be completed, soon,” he said when met here yesterday.

In the 5.20pm incident, a Bangladeshi worker was crushed to death and five others injured when a pile of concrete blocks crumbled.

SAC Mohd Shukri identified the victim as Nurul Islam, 37, while those seriously injured were Samsul Jamal, 26, and Jalilo Rahman, 31.

Nurul Islam was believed to have died on the spot.

Construction of the building, which began in December 2008, is 75% completed.

SAC Mohd Shukri said all the foreign workers had valid work permits. – The Star
