KOTA BAHARU, Jan 24 — The Kelantan state government has rejected a federal government offer to be on a consultative committee for compassionate aid (wang ehsan) that will be set up soon, said Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Nik Aziz said he not also not been invited and rather would not allow any state government officials to sit on the committee.

“If they want to pay compassionate money, there is no need to negotiate. I will not take the money.

“I will not go if invited (to be on the committee) and will by 100 per cent reject the invitation,” he told reporters at his official JKR No.10 state Menteri Besar residence here today.

The Pas spiritual leader was asked to comment on a statement by Deputy Finance Minister Senator Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin yesterday for the state government to appoint a representative for the the compassionate fund.

According to Dr Awang Adek, the purpose for a state representative was to allow for a state representative to be involved in discussions besides providing views on what measures needed to be taken to distribute the compassionate fund. — Reuters
