Perikatan Nasional (PN) expects a tough battle in every seat it is contesting in the upcoming Sabah General Election, as many constituencies are seeing a high number of candidates.
PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah said this was because several seats have more than one candidate, and some even have between 10 and 11 candidates.
“All seats are tough. Some have 11 candidates, some have 10. For PN, every constituency is challenging. In the context of Sabah, contests are always tight because we are relatively new there.
“Previously, we contested under Pas, but now it is under PN,” he said.
Amar, who is the Kelantan State Assembly Speaker, was speaking to reporters after opening the Kelantan Youth State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
The Panchor assemblyman said the coalition was not taking any seat lightly, adding that every candidate had the potential to win.
“The campaign machinery is already in place. Each team has its own schedule. Kelantan, Perlis and Kedah Menteris Besar have also gone down to assist in campaigning,” he said.
He dismissed concerns over whether a candidate was a local or from outside the state.
“This should not be an issue. We leave it to the voters. We believe the voters will make a wise decision,” he said.
Nominations for the 17th Sabah General Election closed yesterday, and a total of 596 candidates will vie for the 73 seats in the Nov 29 Sabah general election.
