Single Mother Jailed For Keeping Stolen Car

KUALA TERENGGANU, March 13 – A single mother of six was jailed 11 months after pleading guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here today to keeping a stolen car.

Rohayu Hamzah, 33, from Kelantan, committed the offence at Jalan Besar Kampung Pengkalan Kubur, Kampung Raja in Besut between 8.50am and 9.45am on Dec 25, 2011.

According to the facts of the case, police were carrying out checks at Jalan Benting Lintang Besut when they intercepted a Proton Waja car that had been reported stolen a day earlier (Dec 24).

In the car chase that ensued, Rohayu who was driving the stolen vehicle abandoned it and escaped into some undergrowth when it skidded at Jalan Besar Kampung Pengkalan Kubur, Kampung Raja in Besut. Police found a purse in the vehicle, which led to her arrest.

Magistrate Abdul Hayyi Salim ordered her sentence to run from the date of arrest. She was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of not less than six months and not more than five years. Inspector Miky Dustan Musa prosecuted while Rohayu was not represented.- BERNAMA
