PAS has been “true and faithful” to all mentris besar that have received the blessing of the Selangor Sultan.
In responding to a decree by the Selangor Palace on Thursday, the Islamist party said that royal assent is the key to political stability in the state.
“We have always stressed that our decision to cut political ties (with PKR) had nothing to do with the state administration as it is only related to the election.
“Severing political ties doesn’t mean we are no longer friends or no longer working together for the benefit of the people,” said Selangor PAS commissioner Sallehin Mukhyi (pic) in a statement on Thursday.
He also assured the people that PAS’ three executive council members and 10 assemblymen would work hard and continue their service alongside the mentri besar and the rest of the state leadership.
“What is more important now for us is to prioritise the people’s needs and political stability,” he said.
Earlier, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah gave his approval for the three PAS exco members to remain in the state government until the next general election.
In a statement issued by the Sultan’s private secretary Datuk Munir Bani, the Selangor Sultan said that the position of the three PAS exco members should remain for the betterment of the people and in efforts to develop the state.
The state was hit by a political crisis when the Selangor PAS leadership decided that all its 13 assemblymen would quit the state government if Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali caved in to pressure from his Pakatan Harapan partners to isolate the Islamist party.
Azmin had said that it was status quo in the Selangor administration with the three PAS leaders remaining as executive councillors, adding that the priority was to focus on stability and the next general election. -thestar
