KOTA BARU: The PAS-led Kelantan government believes it is on the right track to realise the implementation of hudud laws statewide.
Deputy Mentri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah also denied allegations that the state government had failed in its bid to get the laws enforced in Kelantan.
“I want to liken our efforts to that of a tree climber who has reached the mid-section and is taking a breather. If we do not slide down to the base, we are on the right track,” he told reporters after attending the state executive councillors’ meeting in Kota Darul Naim here on Wednesday.
Mohd Amar also clarified that the state government did not need the consent of the Rulers Council to get the green light to implement hudud.
“We are seeking to table amendments to Section 355 of the Syariah Penal Code via the two private member’s bills in Parliament, so we do not need the Rulers Council’s nod.
“Parliament’s green light is enough to enable Kelantan to make hudud the highest law in the state,” he added.
The PAS vice-president reiterated that the hudud agenda was not a political play as alleged by certain quarters but part of the party’s policies since its inception 60 years ago.-thestaronline
