KUALA NERUS – Twenty nine people living in coastal areas of Kampung Tengah, Mengabang Telipot near here, were evacuated after their houses were destroyed by huge waves caused by the high tide phenomenon along the coastal regions of Terengganu.
Kuala Nerus and Kuala Terengganu civil defence forces (JPAM) spokesman Lt (PA) Ahmad Kamal Hakim said waves as high as 4.5m and winds reaching speeds of 60kmph caused extensive damage to the houses.
“Three houses were badly damaged and JPAM has stationed six personnel and an officer on standby. Members of the public have been advised to stay away from the coastal areas and adhere to the advice and warnings,” he told Bernama when contacted Sunday night.
The affected location today was situated about 200m from where another similar high wave phenomenon had occurred last month, he said.- BERNAMA
