Mustafa conceded that Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, the Barisan Nasional director of election for Galas, was a man of influence in Gua Musang, but added: “his will not necessarily translate into votes.”

Currently, after reviewing with PAS Director of Elections, Dato ‘Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman, Mustafa said, PAS is slightly behind BN in level of confience at Galas.

However, Mustafa denied it was caused by factors influence Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, but things are different because of the elections with general elections.

“But because the factor of by-election is different, compare to general election,

“general election executed at the same time the focus is different, now is by-election, the entire government machinery will be concentrated there,” he said.

He added, the decision of the Election Commission to hold polling for Galas and Batu Sapi in Sabah on the same day would benefit Barisan because of the coalition’s “superior logistics.”

PAS has picked its candidate for the Galas by-election in Kelantan, and will announce his name soon.

Party secretary general Datuk Mustafa Ali said today that PAS Harian Committee, which is in charge of the daily running of the party, had on behalf of the central committee decided on the cadidate unanimously.

The name of the candidate, chosen from a list of six, would be passed to PAS spiritual leader and Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat tomorrow for him to make public, Mustafa told reporters here.

He said the date for naming the candidate has yet to be decided, but the party is believed to be planning to reveal its choice on Wednesday.

Mustafa said the candidate for the state seat in the Gua Musang parliamentary constituenccy was a local party leader who had never held an elected office.

The by-election follows the death of PAS assemblyman on Chek Hashim Sulaima, 46, on Sept 27. Nomination day is Oct 26 while polling is set for Nov 4.

He added, the decision of the Election Commission to hold polling for Galas and Batu Sapi in Sabah on the same day would benefit Barisan because of the coalition’s “superior logistics.
