KUALA TERENGGANU: Become tired of his grandmother’s nagging, the 33-year-old suspect has slaughtered the 78-year-old woman to death with a machete at a hut near the victim’s house in Kampung Surau Haji Daud, here, today.

The victim, Halimah Taib, who was alone at the scene, died following three slash wounds on the neck, after her incessant nagging towards the suspect in the 9.30am incident.

State Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Hamzah said the victim’s body was found lying in a pool of blood by a neighbour.

Wan Abdul Aziz said the neighbour then informed the Chendering police station before a team of policemen rushed to the scene to conduct further investigation.

“Upon arrival at 9.50am, the victim was found in a pool of blood while the suspect was not around,” he told reporters at the Kuala Terengganu police contingent, here.

However, he said police located the suspect about 200 metres away from the scene, at a mosque who later led forensics to a bush some 30 metres away where a machete, the weapon allegedly used to slash the woman, was found.

Wan Abdul Aziz said the suspect from Kampung Chenih Baru, Kemaman, is unemployed and had been staying with his grandmother for a week to help her harvest ‘duku’ at the victim’s orchard nearby.

“The suspect admitted that he is a drug addict and killed his grandmother because she nags incessantly. Initial investigations showed he has no criminal record.”

The suspect was taken to the Kuala Terengganu police station for further investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.-nst
