PAS Ulama Consultative Council (Majlis Syura Ulama) unanimously appointed Datuk Dr Haron Din as the new spiritual leader (Mursyidul Am) of the party

Haron DinDr Haron elected to fill the vacancy after incumbent assemblyman Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat died February 13 last.

Assistant Secretary-General of PAS, Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan told the appointment of Dr Haron decided by the Ulema Shura Council in a meeting held on March 8 at the Headquarters of PAS, Jalan Raja Laut.

“Kelantan Mentri Besar, Datuk Ahmad Yacob been holding the post of Deputy PAS spiritual leader of the new.

“The Constitution states PAS spiritual leader positions can be selected by the 15 members of the Shura Council of Ulama (MSU) for a period of five years,” he said when met at the Parliament lobby today.

He said, Mursyidul Am is not bound with conference term as the party’s central committee.

Before this, there was a proposal by certain parties in PAS who want Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang appointed as the new General Mursyidul.
