KUALA TERENGGANU – A police report has been lodged by Datuk Seri Ahmad Said over an individual who allegedly misused the former Terengganu Mentri Besar’s name to cheat a sawmill manager of RM1.8mil.
Ahmad filed the report at the Kuala Terengganu police headquarters here on Tuesday against the individual, a 52-year-old “Datuk”.
The incident is alleged to have occurred earlier this year when Ahmad was still Terengganu Mentri Besar.
“This individual had met with a manager of a sawmill in Kijal, claiming that he was very close to me. He claimed that he could get a logging permit in Terengganu, but needed to pay me RM1.8mil in order to secure the logging area.
“After I was no longer the Mentri Besar, the sawmill manager realised he was conned out of his money. The manager, a Singaporean, came to see me in September and I urged him to lodge a police report.
“The manager however did not do it, so today I am making this report to urge the police to investigate this individual.
“This case has affected my reputation and I hope this will clear my name,” Ahmad told reporters after making the report.
Ahmad denied knowing the individual in question and said there had never been any meetings between the two to discuss a logging project.
“He claims that he is very close to me but this is not true. I do not even know him and have never had any dealings with him,” said Ahmad.
Ahmad, who is the Kijal assemblyman, was replaced as Mentri Besar by Datuk Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman in May
