A 54-year-old woman sacrificed her life for her son today when she pushed the 12-year-old out of the way as a speeding motorcycle was approaching the two.
In the incident that happened this morning in Jalan Pasir Panjang, Kuala Terengganu, Dayang Che Abdul Kadir was crossing the road with her son, Muhammad Izzudin Najmi Ibrahim, to send him to school when she saw a motorcycle speeding towards them.
According to eyewitnessed, she then pushed Izzudin to the curb before the motorcycle crashed into her.
Dayang reportedly fell and hit her head on the road as a result of the accident and was believed to have died at the scene.
The motorcyclist, a Form Four student, only sustained minor injuries.
However, the accident left a helpless young Izzudin watch his mother’s life taken before his eyes.
Kuala Terengganu police chief Asst Commissioner Idris Abd Rafar said the case would be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by driving recklessly and dangerously.
