PORT DICKSON: A survey by the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) found that eight out of 10 people support the proposal for longer maternity leave, its secretary-general, J. Solomon said Saturday.

He said the union had launched a campaign to collect one million signatures before June to support the proposal and a petition on it would be handed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

So far, the union had collected about 400,000 signatures and among those who had signed the petition was former prime minister’s wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, he told reporters at a sport carnival here.

The signature campaign was launched on March 8 to demand the government amend the Employment Act to increase maternity leave from 60 to 90 days for private and public sector workers. – Bernama
