Post-mortem shows land officer died from drowning

KUALA TERENGGANU: The state land officer whose body was found in a river in Hulu Terengganu after going missing for three days died from drowning, an autopsy revealed.

Terengganu CID chief Asst Comm K. Manoharan said the post-mortem on Wan Hariff Rafany Wan Muda’s body found no physical injuries or signs of foul play.

“However, the case is still under investigation. The police have set up a task force to probe the matter and his family members and acquaintances will be questioned,” said ACP Manoharan yesterday.

Wan Hariff Rafany, 35, went missing after leaving his home in Kuala Ibai here on Friday morning.

His 33-year-old wife lodged a missing persons report the next day, and the police found his Audi A4 parked near the Syarikat Air Terengganu Sdn Bhd office in Kuala Berang at 9pm that day.

On Monday, some teenagers fishing at Sungai Kampung Tajin, about 5km from the car’s location, spotted Wan Hariff Rafany’s body floating in the river.

Based on the bloated condition of the body, the police said it had been in the river for over 24 hours.

Wan Hariff Rafany was attached with the land acquisition unit of the Kuala Terengganu land office.
