PAS vice-president and Kedah PAS commissioner Datuk Mahfuz Omar said Barisan Nasional will use the vote-buying tactic in the upcoming Sungai Limau by-election.
He said such incidents have occurred in many previous by-elections, and claimed that it will be done in this by-election as well.
Mahfuz who also PAS’s Director for Sungai Limau by-election claimed that voters will be paid between RM200 and RM300 to vote for BN candidate, which half the payment will be given upfront to the voters.
“The voters are then given the balance once they show the photo (taken from their handphone cameras) of their ballot papers voting for the BN candidate,” he added.
When asked if there were proof of such incidents in Sg Limau, Mahfuz replied: “There is none at the moment.”
Speaking to reporters at the PAS Jerai headquarters here in Batu 16, he urged the Election Commission and police to act on the alleged incident.
Mahfuz also said that BN continues to entice the people with promises of development to lure them into voting for Umno candidate.
“Such tactics are against democracy. The state government – whether led by BN or PAS – has a responsibility towards the people, whether they support the party or not,” he added.
Mahfuz also quashed claims that he and PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu were not on good terms with former Kedah Mentri Besar Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak.
“We were on good terms and were constantly in contact,” he said, adding that the SMS being circulated around recently is with malicious intent.-TheSunDaily
