A cold-blooded killer who goes by the name “Sei Ngan Cai” (four-eyed guy) in the underworld is believed to have gunned down Arab-Malaysian Development Bank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi in broad daylight on Monday.

Police today released images of the gunman, whose first name police believe is Chien, that were captured on a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera at the scene of the crime at Lorong Ceylon.

A 44-year-old taxi driver, who helped the assassin make his getaway in the 12.30pm incident, was subsequently arrested at a restaurant in Sri Petaling at about 9pm.

Kuala Lumpur police CID chief SAC Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the man will be remanded in the hope that he will shed light on the case.

“The taxi driver told us that he was not involved in the case and that the suspected gunman was a regular passenger who used his services. Our search for the gunman is ongoing,” he said.

bankers assasin1Ku said the suspect, who is believed to be a hired killer, was often seen around Taman Maluri, Cheras.

He said investigators have also quizzed a man who was with 75-year-old Hussain and his Malaysian wife Chong Mei Kuen, 49, apparently to discuss a business deal over the acquisition of some real estate.

The 47-year-old businessman, who is a “Datuk” had spent more than an hour at the meeting at a parking lot of a Chinese temple.

Minutes after the Datuk left, the couple were shot by the gunman, killing Hussain on the spot and injuring Chong.

Police said Chong was discharged from a private hospital today and is recovering from gunshot wounds to her thigh and hand.

It is learnt that police are also expected to record a statement from Chong today.

“Though we believe the murder could be over the sale of a plot of land, it is still too early to say this was the motive. We need to arrest the gunman to ascertain the real motive,” he said.

Ku said police have yet to identify the two accomplices of the gunman who witnesses told investigators were waiting a distance away from the scene.
