KUALA LUMPUR – PAS is applying to set aside a judgment in default obtained by Kemaman Municipal Council (MPK) against it in relation to a RM5 million defamation suit by MPK.
Counsel Najmi Dawami Abdul Hamid, who acted for Pas, told reporters that High Court judge Rosilah Yop set June 20 for his client to serve the application to MPK.
MPK was represented by lawyer Azwan Abdul Wahab.
The court had allowed MPK’s application for a judgment in default on May 20 after PAS failed to enter its appearance in court.
In the suit filed on March 22, MPK claimed that PAS had defamed it through leaflets distributed to the party members during a Hari Raya event in Chukai, Terengganu, on Sept 7 last year.
It alleged that the leaflets which had MPK’s logo and two photographs of Zoo Bukit Takal contained alleged defamatory and false statements against the council.
The statements implied that MPK had misused public funds and spent carelessly in the financial management of the zoo – NST
